WORLD DEBUT: BMW X4 Sport Activity Coupe Pictures and Video

BMW designers and engineers have been busy lately releasing cars, SUVs, and cross overs. On the menu this week is the World Debut of the all new BMW X4 Concept. Based on the current generation X3 SAV, Sports Activity Vehicle, the X4 is what BMW calls an SAC, Sport Activity Coupe, similar to the X6.

Front end design is close to that of the X3, yet it signals to what the future face-lift X3 may look like at its’ mid-production life cycle. Front end also takes design ques from the 4 Series, such as the outlines air intakes with chrome horizontal inserts. Additionally, fairly large signature BMW kidney grill that bridges the headlights together directly in a bolder move than the current F30 3 Series. Headlights are an obvious BMW signature, with the bi-semi circular completely LED headlights.

Side profile is extremely similar to the X6 with additional credit going to large, almost squarely shaped wheel arches and 21″ light alloy rims. Not to mention a wheel base closer to the X3 than the X6, at 110.6 inches, 2810mm.

Dramatic proportions and emphasized design define the rear end view which benefits from a 75.4 inches, 1,915 mm wide wheel base. LED taillights, which concentrate mainly towards the quarter panels, give a 3D appearance. Aggressive rear bumper with integrated rectangular tailpipes command a powerful sporty demeanor, that only BMW can pull of in such a way.

Expect the same engine and drivetrain choices as the current X3 in the US and the European market. Similarly, technology features will fall in the same range as the X3, which is already tech-packed in its second generation.

BMW has created another new segment in the SUV market, similarly to how Mercedes-Benz have created the Coupe Like Sedan segment with their CLS, and the CLS Shooting Brake. The X4 will be produced at BMW’s East Coast plant in North Carolina, along side the X3, X5, and X6. The x4 Concept is a sporty SUV with room for four passengers that favors form over complete function. A definite positive mark in our book, especially if a BMW X4M is introduced.
