Today BIMMERTIMES spied the Mercedes-Benz CLA 4-door Coupe-Like Sedan testing around Los Angles California. The CLA is based primarily on the A and B Class chassis, hence the “A” in the nomenclature.
2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA Spy Shots reveal the signature big emblem diamond grill aggressively protruding through the heavy camouflaged front end. Side photos reveal an intrusive pair of sheet metal creases from front fenders to the rear quarter plane, then continuing to the trunk (boot) lid. While the rear end looks more like that of the CLS.
Full unveiling of the CLA is planned for the Detroit at the North American International Auto Show, and show be available to order sometime in November of 2013 as a 2014 model.
Power will most likely be in the form of the current C250 engine. A 2.0-Liter Turbo 4 delivering 201 hp @ 5500 rpm and 229 ft-lb of torque @ 2200 rpm in the US. Expect a 2.1-Liter 4 cylinder turbo-diesel producing 201 hp @ 4200 rpm and 369 lb-ft of torque @ 1600-1800 rpm to be available from launch in Europe.
This comes amid a flow of spy shots of the 2014 BMW 3 Series Gran Coupe sedan, as test mules roam the roads in Europe. Competition is fierce amongst these German rivals to fill car niche segments, to help extract a bigger chunk of sales from the compact luxury market.
Expect a CLA45 AMG version to available at some future date, with power from the same engine as in the A45 AMG hot hatch. Exciting news, as it makes sense for BMW to produce an M3 Gran Coupe on the foot steps of the planned release of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe.
Mercedes-Benz maybe planning a CLA Shooting Brake maybe planned according to some automotive sources with design similar to that of the CLS Shooting Brake sport wagon.
